Sasha and Sophia Chudacoff are inspirational individuals who are trying to change the world through creative processes. Sasha explains the concept behind their brainchild THE PLASTIC BAG PROJECT as “Breathing New Life Into an Old Object, Re-framing The Mundane….In a creative dance exploration of a common object, we find new meaning and appreciation for the pervasive plastic bag. Through the lens of the plastic, we examine the environmental and social impacts of plastic bags through dance and the body. Along with the creative exploration of this cultural object, we explore for ourselves individually how to create something meaningful from something mundane.”
A film is in progress documenting Sasha and her sister Sophia’s process at site specific locations of American grocery stores, landfills and alpine mountain tops. They can also be seen dancing in a new environmental film called BAG IT by Suzan Beraza, award winning film maker of Reel Thing Productions. Check out the trailer here.
Sasha was in town for a few days, and after I heard what her and Sophia were doing I was determined to photograph her dancing. We went down to the beach to get some photographs for her soon to be website. Here are a few of the images from that day.
If I can put my own two cents in…We often forget that “reduce” comes before “reuse and recycle”. Every bag counts!
